The assessment of earthquake risk requires an integrated framework. This needs to cover seismic hazard assessment, databases for building stock and infrastructure exposure, and the identification of vulnerability characteristics of inventory as well as social vulnerabilities. This book covers not only hazard and risk assessment but also risk mitigation and earthquake insurance. It introduces probabilistic and deterministic methods, along with quantification of strong ground motion parameters and estimation of their spatial distribution. Risk assessment is covered through three levels of sophistication, along with case studies.
